Updates no longer announce themselves with a message that fades. The download button in the window chrome IS the notice now: it shows the download's progress in the button itself, then widens and asks you to Restart, in the theme's accent, and stays there until you answer.

Nothing restarts on its own. The update downloads and installs quietly in the background and then waits — the only thing that replaces the running application is you pressing that button.

On the desktop the button is not drawn at all when there is nothing to download and nothing to restart into. An application that updates itself has no use for a permanent download button.

Housekeeping: the copy of the previous version kept for rollback is now deleted once the new one has started successfully, rather than sitting on disk until the next update.
